Aussie ABC children's reading book

A beautifully illustrated child's alphabet book of iconic Australian images has grown from its author's cancer battle.
Aussie ABC is illustrated with images from a quilt that retired Pambula woman, Barbara Evans created for therapy while recovering from radiation treatment.
Barbara Evans was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. As recovery therapy after surgery and 12 months chemotherapy, she made a quilt for her great-nephew in America, to teach him about Australia.
"I'm interested in the theory that children whose parents read to them from an early age become high achievers later on in life", said Barbara. "The quilt was designed to be read to or with young children".
"However it is more than the basic bat, cat, rat ABC. It's elementary, of course, but it includes art, English, history, geography, maths - an hopefully some humour and stimilation for a child's imagination".
The quilt took 12 months to make. Barbara's husband Ken was so impressed with the results he though the creativity should be captured. He asked local printer Carbon Copy, of Pambula, to produce a poster, which led to the book.
